Days 97–102: New Lessons and Stage Ambitions

Getting back into the groove after a trip is always a recalibration. This week was about sharpening the physical tools of the craft and testing the waters for what comes next.

The "Songwriter’s Win"

After a couple of weeks of "getting by" with partial ideas and travel lyrics, I finally hit a breakthrough. On Day 98, I wrote a song where both the melody and the lyrics landed exactly where I wanted them. There is no better feeling than that click—when the craft catches up to the inspiration.

The Vocal Evolution

I had my first vocal lesson in 30 years with Bre Gregg. To say it was eye-opening is an understatement; I could notice a difference in my approach after just one session. I’m currently pontificating on how to balance these lessons with the daily output of the project—it’s a major commitment, but the potential growth is undeniable.

The Stage Call

I spent some time at Guitar Center this week, specifically toying with the idea of getting back on stage.

I tested out some stage pianos and checked out an ES-355. While the current gear prices are a bit out of hand, the spark is there.

I’m starting to weigh the possibility of playing out again—maybe bringing along another artist or songwriter to share the stage. It’s been a while, but the urge to perform these songs live is growing.

Unexpected Inspiration

Even when I intended to take a break from the keys, the songs kept coming. Our dog managed to get loose recently, when we visited my partner’s family in LA, and that shot of adrenaline and emotion turned directly into a new track. Sometimes the best material comes from the moments that disrupt your day.

Catalog Audit:

  • Current Song Total: 74

  • New Tracks: 1 breakthrough melody/lyric track, 1 narrative song (the "escape artist" track).

  • Skills: Started advanced vocal training with Bre Gregg.

  • Gear: Researching stage pianos and hollow-body setups for potential live dates.
