Days 78–79: The Right Room and a New Sound
A major part of building a catalog is building the team. These past two days have been about finding the right people and leaning into a standard I’ve set for myself: only working with those who are as excited about the music as I am.
The Right Connection
I’ve officially connected with an incredible vocal coach here in Portland. After seeing her work, I knew she was the right fit, but the real win was her response to my music.
Making the choice to only collaborate with people who truly "get" the vision is a hard rule to keep, but it’s the only way to elevate the work. I’m energized to start this next chapter of vocal development with someone who is genuinely invested in the sound.
The Portland Sound
I’m realizing more and more that I don't always have to look toward Nashville to find elite talent. Right here in Portland, there are studios and engineers who have worked with major acts.
Knowing I have access to that level of production and engineering in my own backyard changes the strategy for the "Master" versions of these tracks.
A Creative First: Yacht Rock?
Musically, Day 78 brought something completely new to the catalog: my first "Yacht Rock-ish" song. It’s a departure from my usual moody, melancholic lane, but it was a blast to write. It’s a reminder that the 2026 Project is a sandbox—a place to test genres I’ve never touched before to see what sticks.
Maintenance and Practice
Spent a good amount of time on the guitar today, though it was a bit of a struggle. I’ve realized my new guitar desperately needs a professional setup—I’m buzzing strings and fighting the instrument more than I should be.
It’s a small hurdle, but a necessary fix to keep the daily writing sessions productive.
Catalog Audit:
Current Song Total: 69
New Genre Unlocked: 1 Yacht Rock-inspired track.
Networking: Confirmed collaboration with a top-tier local vocal coach.
Strategy: Pivoting toward Portland-based studio and engineering options for future sessions.
