Why JARED MK?

This album is the first full-length, non-instrumental record I’ve released under the name JARED MK. It’s not my first body of work — but it is the first time I’ve built a project entirely within this chapter, from the ground up.

After decades of starting, stopping, writing, recording, releasing, and disappearing, I wanted to see how far I could take something on my own before involving anyone else. New name. Clean slate. No expectations (other than wanting to make it as great as it can be, releasing it out into the world, and then seeing where the chips fall).

It gives me another kind of freedom.

Using JARED MK gives me a certain kind of freedom that I haven’t had before. It creates separation between who I am personally and what I make creatively. And that distance really matters to me right now.

Especially, since I’m less interested in being a “front-facing” artist and more interested in being a songwriter and producer — wanting the music to speak for itself.

I wanted something different.

I also wanted a name that looked and sounded different than what’s out there — something simple, modern, and neutral that didn’t immediately signal a genre, a personality, or a backstory. Something that could hold whatever the music becomes.

It’s about privacy and safety.

The important thing now is that JARED MK gives me room to write honestly about what’s actually shaped me — without feeling like everything has to live on my personal name forever.

Keeping it this way feels better and more aligned with who I am and what I want to accomplish, musically. And right now, that’s what matters most to me.
