Day 73: Rain, Resilience, and 64 Songs Strong.

Sometimes the environment dictates the energy of the work. Today was about navigating the elements and the industry alike.

Singing Through the Storm

The creative highlight of the day was hitting the booth with Nicky V and Nick Walker. We had to navigate some heavy weather and rain that was absolutely pelting the recording studio, causing a few delays in the schedule. But honestly? There’s something about tracking vocals while a storm is raging outside that adds an unwritten layer of tension to a song. We came out the other side with something that feels incredibly original and raw.

The Business of "Independent"

Between sessions, I spent some time with The Manager’s Playbook podcast featuring JMSN. It was a deep dive into what it actually looks like to navigate the industry as an independent artist in 2026. It’s easy to get caught up in the "craft," but staying sharp on how people are actually moving the needle out there is vital.

The Catalog Audit

  • The Distro Update: Managed the re-upload process for Dire Consequences. It’s a bit of a waiting game now, but getting those details right is part of the job.

  • Lyric Check: Spent time reworking a track that was musically solid but lyrically lacking. If the words don't hit, the song doesn't leave the shelf.

  • ASCAP: More administrative auditing to ensure the rights and registrations are watertight.

  • Content: Uploaded new snippets to Reels; currently narrowing down my "Top 5" from the recent batch to take back into the studio for full re-recording.

  • Current Song Total: 64

Sometimes you have to wait out the rain to get the record right. Onward to Day 74.

About The 2026 Project

The 2026 Project is a year-long commitment to the discipline of daily creation. Throughout 2026, I am writing one song every single day to build a diverse, high-caliber catalog for artists, publishers, and film/TV. It’s a journey of exploring new sounds, refining my craft, and proving that the best way to find the next great song is to write through the ones that came before it.
